Not all mesothelioma caregivers are professionals. Some have little to no experience in dealing with all that comes along with a mesothelioma diagnosis. If you have taken over the roll of “caregiver” for a loved one with mesothelioma, you might be feeling a little lost.
Here are some tips to keep you on track:
Stay Organized
Keeping medical paperwork, treatment schedules, and other important documents organized can help you feel less overwhelmed with the tasks presented to caregivers. Ensuring that the patient is taking their medicine at the right times, arriving a little early for appointments, and other small things will help keep you on top of your game.
Manage Your Own Stress
Caring for another individual can be very stressful. Make sure you manage your own stress while ensuring the patient’s comfort. Exercising, resting, and eating balanced meals will help keep your stress levels low.
Ask for Help
If you are feeling overwhelmed, reach out to others. Medical professionals, as well as other family members and loved ones, should do their best to assist you in times of need. Asking for help does not mean you are failing – it only helps the patient receive the best care possible.
