Eric Solomon
I have been with Brayton Purcell since the beginning of 1987, after passing the bar in 1985 and briefly practicing in the criminal law arena in San Diego County in 1986. I switched to defense for 4 years in Fresno County but otherwise have been with this firm through my entire career, representing injured workers, in deposition and in trial. I graduated from UC Berkeley, with High Honors and Distinction in General Scholarship, in December, 1979, after working and traveling in 16 European countries in 1973 post high school graduation. During college, I spent each summer, and one spring and summer, in Western Alaska, working in the fishing industry, as a laborer, longshoreman, deckhand, and mate. Ultimately, I spent several months aboard a King Crab fishing vessel in the Bering Sea/Unalaska area. Later, I worked as a union laborer in the San Francisco Bay area throughout the early and mid 1980s. I graduated from Hastings College of Law in 1984.
What motivated/inspired you to become an attorney?
When I worked as a laborer, several employers cheated my co-workers, and I, passing bad checks, illegally lowering salaries, ignoring established safety rules, and hiring non union workers. I fought back and exposed multiple employers to liability for legal improprieties, resulting in awards of back pay to my co workers and I. I realized I had a knack for combatting cheating employers and that I could help workers that were powerless to help themselves.
What do you enjoy most about the work you do?
I enjoy taking on 10, 30, 100 opponents and defending our clients and gaining substantial recoveries for them.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Hiking, exploring California, reading, studying climate, particularly California climate, improving our home, photography.
