Liliana Nini Carbone
I come from a diverse background: the daughter of an Italian immigrant and an American Army brat. My father's roots span Southern Italy and Buenos Aires, Argentina, while my mother's family is from coal country in West Virginia. Raised in Chicago, Honolulu, and Southern Italy, my upbringing was shaped by different cultures and landscapes, influencing how I perceive my role in the world and my responsibility to communities.
I see my community as defined by shared stories, values, and dreams, transcending geography, and politics. This perspective has nurtured my curiosity, open-mindedness, and sense of adventure, influencing my academic and career choices. I'm driven by a desire to serve the people and places that have shaped me.
What motivated/inspired you to become an attorney?
I have always been driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact and serve my community. This aspiration guided my choices in high school and college, where I excelled in Lincoln & Douglas debate, studied Political Science and Philosophy, and volunteered with at-risk youth. These experiences deepened my understanding of social injustices and solidified my decision to pursue a career in law.
During my time at Santa Clara Law, I had the privilege of participating in the International Human Rights Clinic. One highlight was co-authoring an Amicus Brief for the International Court of Human Rights, advocating for a plaintiff in El Salvador. This experience broadened my perspective on the systemic challenges faced by marginalized individuals and reinforced my commitment to social justice.
Now at Brayton Purcell, I focus on civil litigation within the Artificial Stone group, representing workers afflicted with silicosis due to corporate negligence. It is deeply rewarding to advocate for these individuals and hold accountable companies whose decisions jeopardize worker safety for profit with our team of excellent attorneys. I look forward to continuing to learn and grow as an attorney, striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my clients and the community at large.
What are your hobbies and interests?
Outside of work, I enjoy adventurous pursuits and staying active with my friends. I'm certified as a PADI Open-Water Scuba Diving instructor and hold a black belt in Taekwondo. Hiking challenging trails, participating in hot pilates classes, and being in the ocean are among my favorite activities.
I also find pleasure in long-form journalism, podcasts, and books, particularly in philosophy, crime mysteries, and occasional science fiction. They keep me curious and informed.
And when it's time to relax, you can find me cooking Italian food, or enjoying TV shows with captivating stories and characters—often with my furry companions by my side.
