Product Recall: My Sweet Love Baby Dolls

Children’s toys are becoming more and more high-tech each year. What keeps a child’s attention one day might fade into their memory the next. That is why toymakers are determined to release up-and-coming products to retail store shelves in a timely and profitable manner. But what happens when these toys become so “hot” that they actually burn the consumer?Retail giant Walmart has recently recalled about 174,000 My Sweet Love and My Sweet Baby electronic baby dolls due to burn and fire hazards. The doll lights up to a rosy red color and makes audible noises to indicate that it is “sick.” Children are then required to use the included medical kit “tools” to remedy the symptoms. What seems like a fun and educational toy can actually overheat, causing the surface of the doll heat up. Twelve incidents have occurred with the My Sweet Love and My Sweet Baby electronic baby dolls, two of which resulted in burns or blisters on the child’s thumb. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Association, in conjunction with the Canadian government, has recalled these products in both countries and urge consumers to discontinue use immediately. If you purchased a My Sweet Love or My Sweet Baby electronic baby doll between August 2012 and March 2014, you are advised to immediately take the doll from your child, remove the batteries, and return it to any Walmart Store for a full refund.
