Nancy T. Williams
I was initially drawn to Brayton Purcell by the ethos it embodies and the remarkable individual behind its inception, Al. Al is a person whose life is dedicated to combating injustice, a trait that resonates deeply with me. He has cultivated a community of like-minded individuals who share his commitment to fairness and equity.
Growing up, I was instilled with the belief that determination knows no bounds. My parents, despite not having attended college themselves, instilled in me and my five siblings the values of hard work, continuous learning, and compassion. My father, a dedicated union worker at John Deere, supplemented his income by establishing a successful electrical business, a testament to his industrious spirit. His pride in craftsmanship and dedication to his trade were palpable, evident in his animated storytelling during our drives through town, driving past homes where he worked, describing in great detail the work he did in each of the homes. Meanwhile, my mother's involvement in various volunteer organizations, including providing support to striking workers and volunteering at the polls, taught me the importance of advocacy and standing up against injustice.
Carrying forward their legacy, I embarked on a career path rooted in service and advocacy. From managing a group home for disabled children during college to overseeing a reproductive healthcare clinic post-graduation, I consistently strived to make a positive impact. Law school was a natural progression, providing me with the tools to effect change on a larger scale.
My time at law school was transformative, surrounded by passionate professors and peers dedicated to advocacy. Working with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission was a highlight, reaffirming my belief in the importance of protecting workers' rights and dignity.
Joining Brayton Purcell was a logical step in my journey. Brayton Purcell’s mission to support workers and their families, particularly those exploited by profit-driven corporations, resonates deeply with my values. At Brayton Purcell we staunchly believe that every individual deserves a safe and healthy work environment, and we are committed to holding corporations accountable for their actions. Brayton Purcell serves as a beacon of justice, advocating for the rights of workers and pushing for systemic change.
