What initially drew me to work at Brayton Purcell LLP was the firm's mission. Personal injury law is one of the few areas of jurisprudence where the stakes are so high that they extend to the jeopardization of an individual's body. The notion that litigation involving personal injury claims can result in healing for the individual-and their family-is my most prominent impetus for pursuing a career in personal injury law. While monetary damages do not negate the pain that victims have sustained, they can have tangible palliative effects. Helping to bring justice when an employer trespasses against the law and causes harm to another is an aspect of working at Brayton that keeps me energized on the day-to-day.
During my time in personal injury law, I have been fortunate enough to work at a law firm that goes beyond the call of duty, working diligently to represent clients effectively, while also advocating for amendments to the legal status quo where warranted. For instance, Silicosis is an emergent epidemic disease that primarily affects those who work in stone fabrication, cutting, and installation capacities. It results from persistent inhalation of small-particle silica dust, which causes severe bronchial inflammation and progressive multi-organ disruption. The attorneys at our firm have prioritized pushing to implement safety precautions intended to limit workers' exposure to silica dust. As a result of their advocacy, the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal/OSHA) has recently begun to enforce new safety measures aimed at protecting workers from developing Silicosis. As someone who majored in neuroscience, public policy, and psychology as an undergraduate, I believe that interdisciplinary approaches are imperative in personal injury litigation. I plan on building upon this perspective as a future attorney, influenced by my work at Brayton Purcell LLP, seeking where possible to create implementable policy change geared toward preventing negligent harm.
My hobbies include: participating in 15Ks and half-marathons, making art, reading, gardening, and playing chess with my fiancé. Additionally, I have been a kitten foster parent in partnership with San Francisco Animal Care & Control since 2016, and foster whenever possible.
