许多不是矽肺专家的主治医生经常将矽肺误诊为肺炎、肺结核或慢性阻塞性肺病等另一种疾病。为了正确诊断人造石引起的矽肺病，医生必须考虑以下因素：

  • 职业接触用于制造台面的工程石（石英）（人造）（制造）板或块，有时仅接触两年
  • 胸部 X 线或 CT 扫描异常与矽肺一致：上肺区双侧多发圆形混浊，可能合并为晚期矽肺
  • 医疗考试
  • PFT – 显示限制性肺疾病的肺功能测试
