The fourth of July is a day of celebration, but it is also a day of reflection. Especially this year, as more and more individuals and organizations have set up events to honor mesothelioma victims, we will take the time to remember those affected by the disease.
Here are just a few happenings coming up that you can show your support by partaking in:
Celebrating Veterans on Independence Day (US)
July 4th is a day to remember all of those that fought for our Independence in the United States, as well as those who have continued to fight to protect it. Many average citizens are unaware that our veterans have battled asbestos exposure along with enemies in times of war, which has lead to debilitating diseases including mesothelioma. Today, military veterans make up about 1/3 of meso victims. This makes July 4th a great day to honor their sacrifices along with the freedom they have provided us with.
Miles for Meso (US)
This year, July 4th marks the third annual Miles for Meso 5K Run/Walk in Washington state. The goal is to raise $20,000 to benefit the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation. The race is taking place in memory of Dick Dyhrman, Bud Hatley, and Bob Stewart. Are you running this Saturday? Even if you can not make it to Washington, you can still donate to the cause.
Action Mesothelioma Day (UK)
Friday, July 4th is Action Mesothelioma Day in the United Kingdom. On this day, the country will work to raise awareness about Mesothelioma while honoring those who have passed away from the fatal cancer. The ADAO has a list of events taking place across the United Kingdom that day.
