Solar panels are just one high-tech improvement that many homeowners have become comfortable using in the 21st century. With energy-efficient appliances and home heating systems becoming standard in new homes, it is no wonder that solar panels’ popularity has increased so much over recent years. But just because “going green” is one of the hottest things to do right now does not mean that a defective product should be installed in homes to keep up with trends.Recently, over 240 Centex Homes were built and equipped with Open Energy 34-watt (OE-34) Solar Panel energy systems. These solar panels have recently been recalled by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC). Marketed as SolarSave® Roofing Tiles, two roof fires have resulted from these solar energy systems installed in Centex Homes, but no injuries have been reported. Centex Homes claims to have directly contacted consumers impacted by the recall. If you are living in a Centex home with the OE-34 Solar Panel energy system installed and have not been contacted by Centex, you are urged to turn off your solar panel system and contact the company immediately. Centex Homes will schedule an installation of free replacement panels. Visit www.Centex.com, send an email to [email protected] or send a fax to (800) 917-2201.
